Forensic and National Security Sciences Institute (FNSSI) provides leadership, training, and research for highly qualified students with exceptional scientific skills, legal and political understanding, and ethical practices. Syracuse is uniquely poised among universities to provide the comprehensive leadership and expertise needed to combat global terrorism, promote security, and support criminal forensic science and educate the next generation of forensic practitioners.


The Syracuse University Forensic and National Security Sciences Institute (FNSSI) seeks to deliver a premiere program of excellence, uniquely positioned to make significant contributions to combat crime, effectively deal with natural threats and promote national security through teaching, research and professional outreach under the hallmarks of Science, Knowledge and Integrity. The Institute seeks to educate, train and continuously inform scientific professionals in the forensic and security sciences with unparalleled preparation, technical abilities and professional integrity. The FNSSI seeks to promote justice and global security through interdisciplinary activities that will provide the tools and methods necessary to collect and analyze evidence, detect and monitor threats, inform policy and legal considerations and support our system of justice, homeland security and emergency preparedness. The Institute seeks to work creatively and effectively with federal, state, and local organizations to understand and address critical needs and develop practical solutions.
